He has reddish- brown hair and moustache and blue eyes and wears a black coat, white shirt and a dark blue neck scarf. The head and shoulders are finished; the background and lower foreground are sketched in with the major layout and colors indicated. The background palette consists of violet, blue-green and white. The canvas shows through in some areas.
